Protect useful preparation space
Position the sink, cooking area and refrigerator together with the surfaces between them. A long row of appliances is not necessarily useful if little preparation space remains. Include the kettle, coffee machine and other items you expect to keep on the worktop. Check access to sockets without allowing cables or open doors to interfere with the working surface.
Make vertical storage work
Compare drawers, upper cabinets and tall units according to what they will hold. Frequently used items should stay within comfortable reach; a taller cabinet does not automatically make storage easier. Grouping tall units at one end creates a different visual balance from continuous upper cabinetry. Review ventilation requirements and maintenance access for each appliance before cabinet openings are finalised.
